Mary Chartier Named One of Michigan’s Top 25 Women Lawyers in 2013
Mary Chartier, a founding partner at Lansing’s Alane & Chartier, P.L.C., was named one of Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Women in the Law” for 2013. This selection is dedicated to saluting high-achieving women lawyers in Michigan.
Chartier is a criminal defense litigator who practices in state and federal courts throughout Michigan. She serves as co-chairperson of the Criminal Law Section of the Ingham County Bar Association, and she is an officer for the bar association as well. Chartier has presented on topics related to criminal law around the state and nation, and she has taught at the highly regarded Hillman Advocacy Program, which provides federal courtroom training to trial lawyers and is sponsored by the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan.
Chartier is also the appellate unit chairperson of the Michigan Association of OWI Attorneys and is a member of numerous organizations, including the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan and the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys. She is also active with the American Bar Association, serving as a member of the Education Committee and Women Rainmakers Committee. She recently won the medical marijuana case of People v Koon at the Michigan Supreme Court, and she has taught the state’s first medical marijuana law school class.
