To Transfer or Not to Transfer: The role of the liquor license in commercial real estate sales

As the pockets of retail stores, restaurants and bars expand and become more defined, it’s important to know how a liquor license may or may not transfer with a real and personal property conveyance.

The process can be technical and complicated; as a buyer, involving an experienced licensed beverage attorney is recommended. Your broker and attorney can work together in your best interest to guide you through both the facets of the real estate purchase and liquor license application and transfer process. Conversely, as a seller, involving a commercial real estate broker experienced with bar and restaurant sales is recommended.
