MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP SEEKS TO RAISE $50,000 TO EXPAND FARMERS’ MARKET
The Marketplace on the Green Project, a plan to relocate the Meridian Township Farmer’s Market, is looking to raise $50,000 by early February to help fund a new facility.
The proposed new location and facility will act as a social and economic focal point in Meridian Township – offering community space for the Farmers’ Market, craft fairs, Township wide events, adult and youth sports, live music and more.
It would be located on the north side of the Meridian Mall in the current parking lot and also next to unused green space. The facility would include a pavilion, restrooms, play structure, performance stage, plaza area and year-round ice for skating.
“This fundraising campaign is our last step in making the Marketplace on the Green Project a reality,” said LuAnn Maisner, Director of Parks and Recreation. “We are excited about what is in store and look forward to the public involvement to help us reach the finish line.”
If the fundraising for the project reaches the goal of $50,000, the Marketplace on the Green Project would receive a matching grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) Public Spaces Community Places program.
The community can help with the effort. The Meridian Township Parks and Recreation Department is asking community members to take part in the investment of the new facility and donate to the Marketplace on the Green Project.
