HOW YOUR CUP OF COFFEE COULD HELP FEED A FAMILY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
During the upcoming holiday season, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® will be partnering with the Greater Lansing Food Bank to bring meals to those in need. With the goal of putting more food on tables for the holidays, the Movers for Meals collection drive will be open for donations until the last week of November.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® and the Greater Lansing Food Bank are looking for the following nonperishable food donations:
- Canned goods
- Dry goods
- Boxed dinners
- Freeze-dried foods
- Dehydrated fruit
- Other nonperishable food items
In Michigan alone, 1,414,700 people struggle with hunger and 356,930 of those people are children. On top of that, people of color in Michigan are three times as likely to live with hunger.
The average cost of a meal is only $2.81 in Michigan. There are numerous things you can buy with less than $3 – a cup of coffee, an ice cream cone, maybe a magazine. While you’re ‘treating yourself’ to these items, remember that 14.2 percent of people in Michigan cannot even gather less than $3 for an entire meal.
Ending hunger in Michigan may seem impossible, but helping even just one family with the donation of a few nonperishable food items can make a huge difference. At Meijer there are plenty of boxed dinners to be purchased for a small price. For example, Knorr Sides (rice, pasta, and potato options) are $1, and could help feed a child in your community who would otherwise not have enough dinner to eat.
If you do decide to donate food items, TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® is partnering with other local businesses that will act as drop off points for your food donations, including:
- The Coffee Barrel
- Educational Childhood Care Center (EC3)
- Flex City Fitness
- MSUFCU branches in Charlotte, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt, Lansing, Mason, and Okemos McLaren of Lansing
- Merritt Press
- Ross Medical Education Center
- Tutor Time in Dewitt
- Tutor Time in Okemos
- TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® International
So, when visiting The Coffee Barrel this holiday season, consider matching what you pay for your cup of coffee with a few food items to donate – it’s a win-win.
