The Business and Community Institute of Lansing Community College (LCC) is offering the year’s first section of Emerging Leaders: the popular open-enrollment, accelerated training program. At four hours per meeting, the 16-hour course will help all kinds of leaders learn to recognize and successfully work with different personalities, improve communication skills, confidently handle conflict and change attitudes.

Often, new leaders have on-the-job experience, but they may have received little to no formal leadership training. LCC sees this as a fantastic opportunity to reward those who have worked hard to gain an employer’s confidence and are now in a position of emerging leadership.

Those interested need to make haste; enrollment cutoff is Monday, May 14. The training modules consist of:

Behavior styles and their impact in the workplace – Addressing motivation, conflict and communication, and helping leaders recognize different behaviors and personalities. The module will also give emerging leaders the skills to lead each personality type. 

Effective communication in the workplace – Addressing roadblocks to communication, when miscommunication happens and learning how to put clarity into daily communication. This module also teaches positive and effective ways to provide feedback.

Managing Conflict – Addresses dealing with employee conflict, especially with work related issues, as well as identifying the real problem to find a lasting solution.

Attitude is everything: Providing tools to recognize when there is an attitude problem and the necessary steps to correct it.

Classes on LCC’s West Campus take place on May 30 and 31, as well as June 5 and 7, from 8 a.m. to noon.
