City of Lansing Retains Global Leader in Real Estate to Sell City Hall
Across the street from the State Capitol building, the City of Lansing’s nearly 60-year-old City Hall is due for an upgrade. Lansing has selected CBRE Group Inc., a global leader for commercial real estate, to exclusively procure a developer for the sale of Lansing’s City Hall, located on 124 W. Michigan Ave.
With a worldwide platform, unmatched expertise and unmatched market knowledge, CBRE|Martin, Mid-Michigan’s affiliate office led by Chairman and CEO Van W. Martin, will be marketing the opportunity for redevelopment in downtown Lansing. CBRE|Martin looks forward to providing strategic advice and execution to assisting Lansing as experts in property sales and leasing.
“CBRE|Martin is excited to be a part of the continued catalyst and revitalization of Downtown Lansing,” said Martin. “Through our vast experience of 55 years in commercial real estate, we have been able to serve the greater Lansing area with our knowledge and expertise. CBRE|Martin, as a part of the world’s leading real estate platform, is the most qualified and experienced team to lead the search for a developer for the City of Lansing.”
The search will begin through a Request for Qualifications and Proposals (RFQP) process, a prequalification stage. Qualified candidates throughout the nation will be properly vetted for the task ahead, and final decisions will ultimately be made by Lansing.
“Both the City of Lansing and my administrative staff recognize the tremendous value of redeveloping this property,” said Lansing Mayor, Virg Bernero. “Redevelopment is the best option for the City financially and for the overall betterment of the community.
Prior to redevelopment of the current site, Lansing plans to relocate City Hall — no final decisions have been made from the list of identified locations, so Lansing is open to entertaining proposals that include solutions for the construction of the new City Hall.
“Our goal is to attract qualified developers with the vision, experience, capacity, financial qualifications and passion to build a significant mixed-use, high-rise building that could include a variety of commercial, retail, entertainment, hotel or high-density residential concepts with unmatched views of the State Capitol,” said Mayor Bernero.
