A Lifetime of Opportunities

TWO MEN AND A TRUCK’s hiring initiative presents career options of all sizes

Each year, March signals a period of rejuvenation and growth for the workforce behind the thriving brand that is TWO MEN AND A TRUCK. The 5th Annual Career Move Month hallmarks the brand’s goals to bring new talent to the team and this year they’re looking to extend opportunities to nearly 1,200 individuals nationwide. It seems that there is no better time than now to get on board, as the company sites 85 months of consecutive growth and is forecasting to complete a move every three minutes in the summer of 2017.

While a lot of the efforts needed lie on the frontline – moving, lifting and driving – that doesn’t mean that these opportunities should be taken lightly. As part of the brand’s annual Career Move Month, they’ve launched the Ramp Up! Campaign, that demonstrates the opportunity employees of the company have to push their career beyond entry level positions and to positions such as general managers, franchise owners and beyond. This dedication to acknowledging hardworking individuals with lifelong opportunities has always remained at the core of the company; and no one knows this better than their very own Randy Shacka, president of TWO MEN AND A TRUCK.

Shacka began his career with the company some 16 years ago. As a junior at Michigan State University, Shacka had recently come off of an internship with Disney and was looking for an experience that would allow him to channel his newfound passion for making people happy. What started as a way to make some extra cash as a student has brought Shacka a lifelong career and his experience has propelled him to the top.

“Like many kids, I was looking for a good summer job,” reminisced Shacka. “I’d heard about a marketing internship [at TWO MEN AND A TRUCK] and I’d just come off one at Disney. I’d never experienced a company like [Disney], but I felt that same family feel and warmth when I interviewed with TWO MEN.”

Shacka kept working with the company well beyond his initial intentions, and a little over a year later found himself working in Florida, assisting the launch of new locations. As opportunities began to snowball, it became apparent that the value of experience Shacka had acquired was unparalleled – especially in relation to large company finances and business ethics. The glow, integrity and true passion Shacka exhibited from his co-workers had won him over.

This same warmth is what has garnered the company an excellent track record amongst its customers and peers alike. The specific talent of compassion and dedication to providing customer service is just one component that the company seeks out with each of its new hires. The true special ingredient that one must possess is plain old hard work and dedication. Speaking with Shacka, it became clear that with these tools in your possession, you could find yourself anywhere you want to be within the organization.

“We look for people with great personalities that work hard – but it’s about giving our employees a chance. This company demands great people,” explained Shacka enthusiastically. “My greatest advice is that we look for a few attributes; first is the mindset of continual growth and learning; second is the work ethic and grit. If you look at all of the success stories of people within TWO MEN, and while it seems cliché, attitude and hard work was the key to their success. We want to provide the opportunity for you to develop and grow alongside the business, and that makes us a good fit for people like that. There are so many cool stories that are inspiring within our system. Most started as drivers and loaders and now they’re OMs, GMs, presidents, etc. I’ve been here for nearly 16 years and it’s been the ultimate opportunity.”

The company’s ethos to focus on continuous development is something that embodies the spirit of both the company as a whole and the individuals within it. The company believes that each member’s growth is vital to the success of the organization. As a platform to excel further, the company looks to extend its hand to those looking to better themselves nationwide.

“We think people, even if they don’t stay with us, will become better people because of us. We have a personal growth network and it’s all about people trying to improve themselves on an everyday basis,” explained Shacka. “A big part of the Ramp Up! campaign is showing the message or opportunity – it’s not just words on paper it’s tangible because of the evidence of people having done just that. We’re excited to share those stories of people ramping up and personal growth – whether it’s building skills to stay with us or to push their lives further in general.”

With plans to hire nearly 200 new employees in the Lansing area alone, it seems there is no better time than now to get your foot in the door as the company continues to seek out individuals’ worthy of the opportunities presented. In addition to frontline staff, the brand is also expected to hire some 25 interns to assist in the development of logistics, service development and other new facets of the company, such as its Value Flex Programs, which tackles container management.

The wealth of opportunities that are being made during Career Move Month are great for those that fit the mold. If you’re interested in learning more about the organization and its available positions, visit https://careers.twomenandatruck.com/ramp-up-your-career.
