NACW Luncheon Featuring Debbie Stabenow
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, the National Association of Career Women (NACW) Lansing Chapter hosted its October Luncheon at UrbanBeat Event Center in Lansing’s Old Town from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Each month, the NACW hosts a luncheon for all of its members, but this month’s event honored the NACW Lansing Chapter’s woman of the year, Brenda Geoghegan.
Susan Porrett, new NACW Lansing Chapter President, introduced the award, noting the characteristics of this award winner.
“The woman who wins this award each year is one who promotes our mission; promoting professional and personal growth for career women,” said Porrett.
October’s Luncheon was also exceptional, due to the featured speaker, United States Senator for the State of Michigan, Debbie Stabenow.
Stabenow’s career has proven to be one that advocates for advancing opportunities for women in almost every way, including politics, help for women in domestic violence situations, and by breaking down barriers for women in the workplace.
Stabenow spoke on what she is doing as the senator, what Lansing is doing for Michigan’s economy and the importance of women in the workplace, particularly the government.
“We need to be at the table for these conversations,” Stabenow said to the NACW members. “We represent half of the population, the half that wasn’t spoken for before. We need to be sure our voices are heard, and that’s what we’re doing when we participate in the conversation.”
