Gigi’s Cupcakes Grand Opening Event A Huge Success
As of Friday, July 15th, the new franchise, Gigi’s Cupcakes, is officially open on Trowbridge Road in East Lansing and it was celebrated with a Grand Opening celebration. With more than 106 locations around the US, Gigi’s Cupcakes has become one of the largest cupcake franchises in the U.S.
At the celebration, a line was formed, customers ranging from young kids to older adults, waiting for the grand opening, everyone looking for delicious treats like specialty cupcakes, mini cupcake, cookies and cheesecakes.
The franchise founder, Gina ‘Gigi’ Butler, was present at the grand opening to officially open the location, show her support and to take photos with people.
Both Gigi and Gina Farhat, the local owner, were all smiles as they cut the ribbon in front of the store, letting folks in to buy cupcakes and try the free samples.
Farhat was very excited about the opening, handing out free PF Chang appetizers to the first 50 customers to buy treats, Alex and Ani bracelets, and a Kitchen Aid Mixer. The opening lasted from noon to 2pm and was very busy the entire time.
“I feel like we have a positive impact on the community,” says Farhat. “And the community has been very welcoming.”
Gigi’s Cupcakes currently employs thirteen workers both full and part time but is expecting to hire more when the fall comes.
“It can be a little slower in the summer with the students from MSU gone,” says Farhat. “But we’ve been getting a steady stream of business since the Grand Opening.”
So far, Farhat is focusing on producing the best cupcakes she can, while using a couple special recipes here and there.
“We’ve done a handful of cake orders but I’m more comfortable doing cupcake towers at the moment,” says Farhat, explaining that the cupcake towers consist of two to nine levels depending on the order. “We may do more cake orders in the future.”
As a new store in the area, the cupcake boutique has really been focusing on the daily cupcake menu that is set up by the franchise, however Farhat noted that Gigi’s has a great variety of “specials” that they can make, “creating new cupcake experiences for our customers each week,” Farhat said.
At the two-hour grand opening event, customers enjoyed meeting with the franchise founder Gigi and taking pictures with Sparty. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Ele’s Place. Throughout the day, they sold around 1200 cupcakes, plus cheesecakes and cookies.
“I’m so thankful for the support I’ve been getting from the community, my staff and my family,” says Farhat.
