Startup Businesses Shine at 2016 Greenlight Business Model Competition
This year featured 20 finalist teams from across the state of Michigan, with each finalist team bringing a unique business idea to the table. Each finalist was allotted four minutes to pitch his or her business to a panel of judges. The winners received funding to further their business ventures anywhere in the state of Michigan. Eight winners were announced, with a grand prize of $25,000 being awarded to the first place overall pitch winner.
“Small communities are built on small businesses. This competition highlights creative and innovative ideas,” said April Clobes, president and CEO of MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU). “Our [MSUFCU’s] long terms goals are to enhance the Michigan economy and the small business community by supporting young entrepreneurs and events like this.”

2016 Winners:MSUFCU Grand Prize ($25,000) – Orindi Ventures
The idea: A textile mask that allows the user to breathe warm air in the coldest of environments.
Second Place Overall ($10,000 and one year of free hosting and platform use at Liquid Web) – Spartan Assays
The idea: Providing a real-time, handheld device to test marijuana impairment.
Third Place Overall ($4,000) – SPLT
The idea: An enterprise-first ridesharing platform that is reinventing the commute.
Whirlpool Every Day Care Award ($5,000) – Care PRN
The idea: A trusted digital marketplace providing on-demand access to certified in-home care.
Best Overall Pitch ($1,000) – Big E’s Smoke Shack
The idea: Big E’s proudly prepares and serves the most amazing smoked fish in Northern Michigan.
Most Creative/Original Pitch ($1,000) – Hoppily Ever After
The idea: Hoppily Ever After will be a hops farm that will host a country romance wedding venue.
Undergrad First Place ($3,000) – Conecter
The idea: The Conecter app connects college students to eat, study, workout and have fun together.
Undergrad Second Place ($1,000) – GoSpot
The idea: GoSpot repels water from your GoPro camera to ensure you capture water spot free footage.
