Sparrow Children's Center: In the Business of Miracles
Parents are relentless when it comes to the health and well-being of their children; after all, it’s their job. If your child had a life-threatening illness or medical condition, how far would your family have to travel for treatment? It’s not something we like to think about and thankfully for mid-Michigan, the answer is “not far at all.”
For more than 20 years, Sparrow Children’s Center has been an accredited Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospital, treating more than 68,000 children annually. One of just a few CMN hospitals in the state, Sparrow is home to the Granger Pediatric Emergency Department, which is the only pediatric emergency room in mid-Michigan, completed in 2008. Equipped with a nursing staff recently recognized as among the top 5 percent in the nation, renowned pediatric specialists and state-of-the-art facilities, Sparrow is second to none for the care of children in our region.
While it takes the support of our entire community to make the miracles at the Sparrow Children’s Center a reality, there are many ways businesses can help the ongoing advancement of treatment and healthcare technology for children in mid-Michigan throughout the year. Just around the corner is the 2010 Sparrow Children’s Center Giveathon.
This year, the Sparrow Children’s Center Giveathon will combine the efforts of its radiothon and telethon pledge drives into one event. On Thursday, June 3 and Friday, June 4, Mid-Michigan Radio Group stations will host the pledge drive from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The pledge drive will continue on television Friday evening from 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and conclude on Saturday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on WILX Channel 10. One hundred percent of the funds raised during the Giveathon are donated to Sparrow Children’s Center.
The Sparrow Foundation encourages local businesses and individuals to engage in fundraising efforts to support the Sparrow Children’s Center Giveathon. We invite all businesses making a donation, of any size, to participate in a check presentation—live on air during the televised portion of the event.
Businesses can consider a friendly fundraising competition with neighboring businesses. Organizations and individuals donating $10,000 or more will receive recognition on Sparrow’s major donor board in the lobby of Sparrow Hospital.
Businesses wishing to sponsor the Giveathon can get involved in many different ways, such as donating their time and resources to the event. Being an hour sponsor for the Giveathon allows your business associates to take phone calls and engage with our live studio audience.
The support from businesses and individuals in our community, during the Giveathon and all year long, enables Sparrow Children’s Center to maintain the best possible care for children in mid-Michigan.
Funds from this year’s Giveathon will support the recruitment of additional pediatric specialists, ongoing renovations to our pediatric facilities and the purchasing of new equipment and technologies to keep children close to home when care is needed.
Businesses can support the Sparrow Children’s Center today by making a donation on behalf of your organization at www.sparrowfoundation.org. Also, consider participating in other Sparrow Foundation events benefitting the Sparrow Children’s Center throughout the year: Tim Staudt’s Ultimate Golf Outing (September), Spartan Marching Band for Kids Concert (September), and the Meijer Holiday Hoops Invitational (December).
It’s important to celebrate the miracles happening each day at Sparrow Children’s Center. It’s equally important to ensure this resource remains available for generations of children to come. Let’s continue keeping Sparrow Children’s Center in the business of miracles, so we can keep families in mid-Michigan when support and care is needed. For more information on ways your company or organization can get involved or take a tour of Sparrow Children’s Center, including mid-Michigan’s only pediatric emergency room, contact Sparrow Foundation’s Joy Wiseman, director of development, at 517-364-5691 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
